LAWRENCE — A 42-year-old man is dead following a stabbing Saturday night at an apartment in Lawrence.
Lawrence Police Department Deputy Chief Gary Woodruff said in an emailed statement the incident occurred just after 9:30 p.m. at The Grande Reserve at Geist apartment complex located near Fox and Oaklandon Roads.
Woodruff said four or five friends and family members gathered at the apartment where an argument between two of the people turned violent. The man, identified by the Marion County Coroner's Office as Devon Casey, 42, was stabbed once in the chest and transported by medics to St. Vincent Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
The suspect remained at the scene and was taken into custody by Lawrence police. Woodruff said he is being interviewed by detectives.
Evans and the suspect knew each other, Woodruff said, and it was an isolated incident.
The incident remains under investigation by the Lawrence Police Department, Marion County Crime Lab technicians, Marion County Prosecutor's Office and the Marion County Coroner's Office.
