INDIANAPOLIS — A man arrested for a shooting in downtown Indianapolis said he was trying to get a murder suspect to turn himself in before he shot him.
Terry Brown has been charged with battery with a deadly weapon.
Brown is accused of shooting and wounding 39-year-old VInson Edge Monday night in downtown Indianapolis.

Brown told police that he was the boyfriend of Edge's mother, Vicki Edge, who died after she was stabbed inside her home in Speedway on Sunday.
Court documents show Brown, along with Edge's brother and uncle, were looking for Edge on Monday when they found him near Maryland and Illinois streets. The group of men tried to convince Edge to turn himself in to police, and then tried to detain him when he refused and a fight broke out. That's when Brown told police he tried to hold Edge at gunpoint until police arrived, but Edge dove for his gun and he fired, shooting him in the leg.
Police found the group of men at the scene and Edge was taken to the hospital to be treated for the non-life threatening gunshot wound. Edge is facing a preliminary charge of murder for the stabbing death of his mother.
According to court documents filed against Edge, he was demanding his "inheritance" from his mother before he attacked and killed her. Edge was scheduled to make his first appearance in court on Friday, but he remains in the hospital recovering from the shooting. That court appearance has been rescheduled for Monday.
