WAYNE COUNTY — Deputies in Wayne County seized more than $25 million worth of drugs Wednesday on Interstate 70.

Deputies were working a traffic enforcement detail near a construction zone when they noticed a car speed past them, according to a release from the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies and a K-9 found at least 16 kilograms of suspected fentanyl, five kilograms of suspected heroin, and a small amount of methamphetamine in the car, according to the release.

Flerida Vianey Burgos Gonzalez, of Hesperia, California, was arrested on a federal warrant Friday, according to the release.

“The drug seizure in this case was the largest in the recent history of Wayne County,” Sheriff Randy Retter said in the release. “Although we believe the destination for the drugs was the east coast, drug trafficking organizations such as this pose a great risk to the public safety in our community. Parts of this shipment could have been easily redistributed in this area. All of the officers involved did an excellent job in this investigation. It is another example of our commitment to keep these dangerous drugs off the streets and the great work performed by the officers, even during this pandemic.”

Members of the Wayne County Drug Task Force and FBI assisted with the investigation.
