COLUMBUS — A Noblesville man was arrested Saturday morning after he allegedly took a gas station clerk's car during a robbery in Columbus and led police on a chase.

Columbus Police Department officers were called around 4:20 a.m. to the GetGo gas station at 3545 West County Road 450 South to investigate the incident, CPD Lt. Matt Harris said in a press release.

Officers later determined the 29-year-old man allegedly grabbed the clerk outside of the gas station and cut her with a knife while taking her car keys, Harris said. He then took the clerk's car and left the gas station.

A Bartholomew County Sheriff's Office deputy spotted the clerk's car on Interstate 65 and tried to pull the man over, but he didn't stop, Harris said. The man was arrested after a chase near the 83-mile marker.

The man was preliminary charged on the suspicion of robbery with a deadly weapon, battery with serious bodily injury, auto theft, intimidation, and resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, Harris said.

Formal charges have not been filed, according to online court records.

CPD detectives are still investigating the incident, Harris said.
