LAWRENCE — An off-duty officer witnessed a man veer of the road and slam into a house in Lawrence on Monday and then pull away and flee the scene.
The officer was traveling on German Church Road near 56th Street when he saw the vehicle slam into the side of the home, according to police. The driver then backed out of the house and fled the scene.
The officer followed the vehicle to a hotel on Pendleton Pike where the driver was eventually arrested.
No injuries were reported from the accident, but police say the home sustained heavy damage.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation. It is unclear what the driver will be charged with at this time.
