INDIANAPOLIS -- The shooting at a Carmel Red Robin last week stemmed from an argument over a messy kitchen station, according to documents filed in Hamilton County Court.

Trestan I. Miles faces charges of pointing a firearm, carrying a handgun without a license, criminal recklessness, battery and intimidation in connection with the incident at July 27 at the Red Robin restaurant in Carmel’s Clay Terrace shopping center.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Hamilton County Superior Court on Monday, Miles is alleged to have become angry at a coworker, Daniel Estrada, who left his work station in the restaurant’s kitchen messy at the end of his shift.

That argument escalated into a physical conflict, during which Miles reportedly went to his vehicle and grabbed a handgun. During the fight, Miles is accused of firing a shot that grazed Estrada’s left hand.

Miles confirmed the fight to police, but said it was Estrada who had instigated it by following him with his shirt off and yelling. Miles also reportedly admitted to police that he hid the handgun in a coworker’s vehicle following the shooting.

Police located the gun, a 9mm Taurus, inside the coworker’s vehicle under the driver’s seat. It had five rounds in the magazine and a spent casing in the chamber.

An initial hearing was held in the case on Monday. As of Friday afternoon, Miles was out of jail on a $10,000 bond. His next court appearance was scheduled for Sept. 4 at 9 a.m.
