Woman found dead in alley on Indy's northwest side identified

UPDATE: The Marion County Coroner's Office has identified the victim as Raquel Woodard, 32. The cause of death is gunshot wounds and Woodard's death has been ruled a homicide, the coroner's office said.

INDIANAPOLIS — A woman was found dead in an alley on Indianapolis' northwest side Thursday morning.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to a report for shots fired in the 1000 block of West 36th Street around 9 a.m.

Arriving officers found a person deceased in the alley near that location. Their cause of death has not been released at this time.

The victim's identity will be confirmed and released by the Marion County Coroner.
