Person in critical condition after incident at gas station on Indianapolis' eastside

This story has been updated with new information from Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Office Genae Cook, stating after gathering facts, detectives believe the person was not shot, but possibly stabbed.

INDIANAPOLIS — Police are investigating after a person was critically injured in an incident Saturday afternoon at a gas station on the eastside of Indianapolis.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers and emergency responders were called around 2 p.m. to the Valero gas station, near North Sherman Drive and East Michigan Street, on the report of a person shot, IMPD Officer Genae Cook said in a press release. When they arrived, they located a victim who was suffering from an unknown injury.

After detectives gathered facts and began to investigate, it is believed the victim was not shot, but possibly stabbed, Cook said.

The victim was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, Cook said.

At this time, the identity of the victim or any possible suspects have not been released.
