INDIANAPOLIS — One person is dead following a mid-afternoon shooting at a west side Indianapolis apartment complex.
Police were called to 5701 Port Au Prince Street just after 2:30 p.m.
Officer Genae Cook, a spokeswoman for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, said two people were shot near the complex. One person was pronounced dead on the scene. A second person was taken to an area hospital in stable condition, Cook said.
According to Cook, witnesses told police someone fired the shots from a passing vehicle.
Police are conducting an active search in the area for possible suspects.
The apartment complex is located just east of Interstate 465 between Rockville Road and West 10th Street.
