INDIANAPOLIS -- A 6-year-old girl was found safe after she was a passenger in a stolen car Friday morning on Indianapolis' south side.

The incident began when a 2017 Chevy Camaro was stolen from a house in the 300 block of E. Southern Avenue around 6:25 a.m. Friday.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, a family was getting ready to take a trip to Alabama with their daughter. The girl was in the backseat with her tablet when the family went back inside the house to grab more bags. Somebody entered the car and drove away. When the family went back outside, both the car and the girl were gone.

At some point, the person who stole the car realized there was a child in the backseat. They stopped, took the girl out of her carseat and put her in a red Ford Expedition, driven by a female accomplice, police believe.

The woman in the red Expedition dropped her off at the McDonalds at Keystone and National avenues. At the McDonalds, an employee noticed the girl and called police.

Police are still looking for the suspect and the woman in the red Expedition.
