INDIANAPOLIS — A woman was shot and killed and a child was injured in an incident Sunday afternoon on the northwest side of Indianapolis.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers and emergency personnel were called around 1:45 p.m. to the 4800 Block of Clarkson Drive, near West 52nd Street and Georgetown Road on the report of a person shot, IMPD Officer Michael Hewitt said.
Officers found a woman and child suffering from gunshot wounds when they arrived, Hewitt said. The woman, identified as 26-year-old Alexis Edwards, later died due to her injuries.
The child who was with the woman is being treated for non-life threatening injuries, Hewitt said.
The relationship between the child and Edwards has not been released.
