ANDERSON — Human skeletal remains found in April by a father and son who were hunting for mushrooms in an Anderson park have been identified.
According to Madison County Coroner Danielle Noone, the remains have been identified as Ronald Mandrell, 52. Mandrell's last known address was in Anderson, however, he was homeless prior to be reported missing.
Noone said Mandrell was missing more than a year and was reporting missing sometime in mid-2018.
Anderson police Maj. Joel Sandefur said Mandrell's cause and manner of death remain under investigation.
Anderson police were called to River Bend Park shortly before 11 a.m. April 17 after a father and son who were hunting for mushrooms discovered the remains in an area near the White River. Police said at the time it appeared the remains had been at the location for awhile based on the condition of the remains.
