KOKOMO — The head of the Galveston, Indiana Police Department was arrested by state police detectives Thursday.

Steven Jones, the 47-year-old Galveston Town Marshal, faces two criminal charges: possession of a fraudulent sales document, and delivery of a false sales document.

Galveston is a small Cass County town, northwest of Kokomo. The case involves the defrauding of the Northwestern School Corporation in Howard County, not far from Galveston.

According to Indiana State Police Public Information Officer Sgt. Tony Slocum, Jones, in addition to his police work, was a bus driver for Northwestern schools and owned the buses he drove.

The contract between Jones and the school system ended last year. At that time, the school corporation agreed to pay repair bills for damage to one bus during the installation of GPS equipment.

Detectives turned up evidence that Jones allegedly created fraudulent invoices which were submitted to the school corporation for reimbursement. Police found that repairs were not completed as indicated on the fraudulent invoices,

Following Thursday's arrest, Jones was taken to the Howard County Jail in Kokomo.
