Teen killed in drive-by marks fifth deadly shooting in less than 24 hours in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS — A teen killed in a drive-by shooting while walking down the street on Indianapolis' northeast side marked the fifth person killed in a violent 24 hours in the city on Sunday.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to the area of Franklin Road near 34th Street for a report of a person shot. When they arrived, officers found a teen suffering from a gunshot wound. That teen was pronounced dead at the scene. He was later identified by the Marion County Coroner as Leandre Lane, 17.

The teen's friend told police that the two were walking down Franklin Road when someone drove by and fired at them. Police do not have a vehicle or suspect description at this time.

Police believe the shooting was an isolated incident and not connected to any of the other shootings that happened overnight in the city.

Police are still searching for suspects from five other shootings that left four people dead and five injured late Saturday into early Sunday morning.
