INDIANAPOLIS — Marion County courtrooms were busy places Thursday and Friday, as sentencing hearings were held for three of the four suspects in the murder of Dr. Kevin Rodgers, a prominent local physician.
Rodgers was shot to death at his northwest side Indianapolis home in November of 2017.
Three of the four suspects were sentenced this week. 18-year-old Devon Seats, the alleged triggerman, has a sentencing hearing set for February 13. All four suspects avoided trial by accepting plea agreements.
17-year-old Tarius Blade: Pleaded guilty to one count of burglary resulting in bodily injury and two counts of burglary. Blade was sentenced to 15 years in prison, with the initial part of his sentence served at the state's Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility.
19-year-old Nehemiah Merriweather: Pleaded guilty to three burglary charges and was sentenced to 30 years behind bars.
20-year-old Karon Bickham-Hurst: Pleaded guilty to a pair of burglary charges and one count of burglary resulting in bodily injury. Sentenced to 23 years.
Investigators say the four suspects planned the burglarize Rodgers' residence. But the doctor was home at the time and confronted the group.
Rodgers, who had been on the phone with his wife just prior to the incident, was shot and killed. She came home to find his body.
