LAFAYETTE — Two Lafayette police officers will return to work after a review board cleared them of wrongdoing in an officer-involved shooting that injured a man last week.
According to information from the Lafayette Police Department, the review board determined Officers Khoury Elias and Israel Salazar were not in violation of department policy and followed departmental training standards when Trevor Bowie, 29, was shot April 21 during a domestic disturbance investigation.
During the investigation in the 800 block of North 7th Street in Lafayette, officers met with a woman who said Bowie had left before police arrived and that he had allegedly stolen a handgun.
Police found Bowie nearby and began a foot pursuit, according to a news release, which said Bowie pointed a handgun at Elias and Salazar in a parking lot in the 600 block of North 6th Street. Elias and Salazar fired their department-issued handguns, striking Bowie, who has been released from the hospital and is in custody at the Tippecanoe County Jail.
Lafayette police said Bowie's criminal case has been turned over to the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor's Office and no case facts or camera footage will be released while it case is under review.
Elias and Salazar will return to normal patrol duties immediately, the release said.
