ANDERSON — One of two unborn twin boys has died days after his mother was shot in the head.
Anderson Police Chief Tony Watters said the mother, Alexis Wasson, 29, and the other 21-week-old unborn boy remain on life support.
Skye'Lar White is accused of shooting his girlfriend, Wasson, in the head in the early morning hours of Aug. 2 and not seeking immediate medical attention. According to court documents, White told his mother it was 'an accident.'
White, is currently facing charges of attempted murder and criminal recklessness, although Anderson Police Department Chief Tony Watters says those charges are expected to be upgraded.
Wasson has remained on life-support at the hospital since the shooting, although Watters says doctors have determined that she has no brain activity.
According to court documents, the shooting happened at the home the couple shared in the 4200 block of Mellen Drive.
After Wasson had been shot, court documents state that White put her in his vehicle and drove to his mother's home nearly 1.5 miles away.
Police interviewed the mother who said her son was "in a frantic state" when he arrived at her house and said Wasson had been shot but "it was an accident."
The mother found Wasson in the passenger seat of White's vehicle covered with bedding and blood. Wasson was bleeding and "making some sound," the mother told police.
Another witness inside the mother's home claims White was "jumping around and yelling" and saying he needed his mother to drive Wasson to the hospital. "The gun went off and grazed her head," White reportedly told the witness.
White's mother drove Wasson to the hospital and he fled the residence on foot, according to court documents. Investigators later found him outside a home on W 16th Street where he was taken into custody.
Investigators determined White made no attempt to get medical treatment for Wasson and did he did not call 911 for help. Detectives found a spent 9mm shell casing behind the headboard of the victim's bed, behind the mattress, although no pistol was located inside the home.
Chief Watters said White and Wasson were living in the home together at the time of the shooting with Wasson's 5-year-old daughter. It is still unclear if White is the father of Wasson's twins.
The shooting remains under investigation.
