INDIANAPOLIS - Mayor Joe Hogsett and Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Chief Randal Taylor kicked off the city's first body camera program Monday afternoon.

IMPD will outfit 1,100 officers, 10 officers a day with the new body cameras. The cameras will fit into the officer's vest, meaning they're much harder to be knocked off during a struggle.

Taylor said the officers must have their cameras on for every citizen interaction, except when requested by the citizen. The video will be stored for 190 days, unless an investigation is opened into an incident.

Taylor said all 1,100 officers should be outfitted with the cameras by early November.
