INDIANAPOLIS — A student who appeared to be carrying a gun was apprehended inside an Indianapolis school Wednesday morning.

The incident happened at Lynhurst 7th & 8th Grade Center.

Wayne Township Schools Superintendent Jeff Butts posted a message on Twitter saying the schools were placed on lockdown after a staff member saw a student who "appeared to have a weapon."

Butts said the building was placed on a full lockdown and the school resource officer apprehended the student.

During the investigation, Dr. Butts said it was determined that the student had brought an airsoft toy pistol to school to sell it to another student.

"I appreciate the quick actions taken by our students and staff to successfully implement the safety plan, which we practice multiple times each school year," Butts said.
