INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis native David Letterman will make a return to television next year.

Letterman will be in a new unnamed Netflix show, set to premiere in 2018.

The show will be six episodes long, and each episode will feature a longform conversation with a guest, then in-the-field segments featuring Letterman.

“I feel excited and lucky to be working on this project for Netflix," Letterman said. "Here's what I have learned, if you retire to spend more time with your family, check with your family first. Thanks for watching, drive safely.”

Letterman is the longest-running late-night broadcaster in American history. He hosted 6,028 episodes of "Late Night" and "The Late Show" at NBC and CBS.

His last show at "The Late Show" aired May 20, 2015.

Since leaving the late night scene, Letterman has grown a Santa-like beard.

"We’ll have to see if he keeps the beard,” said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer at Netflix.

Letterman is a graduate of Ball State University.
