DELAWARE COUNTY—A conservation officer with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources is credited with saving a woman after her car ended up in a pond.

The accident happened Wednesday evening southeast of Muncie in rural Delaware County.

According to the DNR, 73-year-old Joyce Phipps of Winchester was driving on County Road 700 East at 400 South, when she missed a curve and her car landed in a pond at the intersection.

Her vehicle was in 55-degree water and she wasn't able to get out.

Conservation Officer Jordan Brand was in the area and responded to the call. When he got there, water was up to the driver's side window.

Brand was not able to get Phipps through the window, but eventually got the door open and took her to shore.

Phipps was treated at the scene by Delaware County EMS.
