Just one day after shooting an armed intruder threatening his wife, a 76-year-old Indianapolis man said he's shaken, but physically OK.

The couple, who asked not to be identified out of fear for their lives, was at their rental business yesterday on the 700 block of North Bosart Avenue when 27-year-old Anthony Talley allegedly walked in and pointed a gun at the elderly woman's head, demanding money.

The woman's husband, hearing a commotion, walked into the room and saw his wife being held at gunpoint. He said he then fired a shot at Talley out of fear for her life. When Talley allegedly got back up and pointed his gun, the man fired twice more – both shots striking Talley in the head.

"If someone comes into your home and you're in imminent fear of danger for your life, you have a right to protect yourself," said IMPD Sgt. Kendale Adams.

The couple said they'd never seen Talley before, but believes he was desperate for money.

Police said Talley was wanted on several outstanding warrants in Marion and Johnson counties.

Talley was still listed in critical condition at Eskenazi Hospital as of Tuesday evening.
