INDIANAPOLIS — The family of a teen shot by police held a rally Tuesday evening calling for answers from authorities.
Isaiah Batteast, 19, was shot by Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers early Saturday morning on the city's south side after he allegedly did not drop a rifle, according to IMPD. He was taken to Eskanzi Hospital in critical condition.
Officers were investigating an attempted carjacking and believed Batteast and a juvenile matched the description of the suspects, according to IMPD.

Monique Batteast, Isaiah's mom, says she organized the rally to call for answers from police on what happened.
"I decided to organize this because I want justice, I want answers," Monique said.
Police say the juvenile who was at the scene was taken into custody, but was not under arrest as of Saturday evening.
Isaiah will be preliminary charged with attempted robbery and carrying a handgun without a license, according to IMPD. Formal charges have not been filed, according to online court records.
