KOKOMO — Recruit firefighters from the Kokomo Fire Department were quick to the rescue Wednesday when eight ducklings managed to fall into a stormwater sewer.

It happened right in back of Fire Station One in downtown Kokomo, according to Kokomo Fire Chief Chris Frazier. The sewer empties in Wildcat Creek.

A little girl saw what was happening and tipped off the firefighters. It took at least four of them to open the grate and, working together, reach down inside and corral each of the ducklings.

The babies were placed in a box and taken to a safe location.

The recruits are in their second week on the job in Kokomo.
