BEECH GROVE — His name was Warner Wiley, but you could easily call him "Mr. Beech Grove".

Wiley, who was 83, died this week. He served three-terms as the Mayor of Beech Grove, but his service to the city on the southeast side of Marion County did not end there.

At one time or another, Wiley was: Mayor, Beech Grove Police Officer, Chief of Police, Park Board President, City Council member, Senior Center Advisory Board member, and member of the Board of Public Works and Safety.

Somehow, Wiley also found time to work 17-years as security director for St. Francis Hospital.

Wiley lived in Beech Grove all his life and was a member of the high school's last undefeated football team.

Last year, the police department's headquarters was renamed in his honor.

Visitation is Thursday, 4-8 p.m. at Holy Name Catholic Church. His funeral is 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
