INDIANAPOLIS -- Former NFL wide receiver Corey Parchman has returned to his hometown to open up a new day care dedicated to improving the potential of young boys in one of the Indianapolis' most dangerous neighborhoods.
"They're from this neighborhood that's true, but you don't have to be a product of it. If all they know is the neighborhood, then that's where they're going to go," said Parchman.
The "Mini-Men Pre-K Leadership Academy" is geared toward preparing three to five-year-olds from the 46218 zip code for success in kindergarten by introducing them to things not often available in their environment like sign language, Spanish and engineering.
"These boys are smart. They're very smart, so they pick up on everything they see. I want to have them pick up on the positive things," said Parchman.
Parchman says the wait list is growing faster than the program can progress. Right now, he believes focusing on the 25 boys the academy has enrolled is what's most important.
