Friends and family celebrate life of 8-year-old girl shot and killed in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS — Friends and family gathered Saturday to celebrate the life of 8-year-old Kendrielle Brye, who was shot and killed in Indianapolis last weekend.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department detectives are looking for Kendrielle's father, Kendall Brye, who is wanted for questioning in connection with the shooting March 24, according to IMPD. Kendrielle was taken to an Indianapolis Fire Department station by her mother for help after she was shot.

Members of the community joined friends and family on Saturday to celebrate the life of Kendrielle.

"It's just such a tragic loss for a family to lose such a young and vibrant child," Michael Ehrenwald said. "We feel such a loss for the family. We had to come despite the weather. We had to be here."

Kendrielle's mother was at the celebration of life and balloon launch on Saturday and had a message for Kendrielle.

"Kendrielle, I just want you to know I miss you so much," Tiffany White said. "Baby, baby, I'm so sorry."

Funeral services will be held for Kendrielle on Wednesday morning at New Directions Worship Center located, 701 King Street.
