CARMEL, Ind. — A woman was killed and a man was critically injured after a fiery crash in Carmel Monday morning.

The crash happened just before 11 a.m., in the northbound lanes of Ditch Road, near Queens Way.

Carmel Police Department officers say 76-year-old William Feasel was driving a 2017 Ford Fusion when he veered off the road for an unknown reason and struck a tree. The vehicle caught fire in the crash.

The passenger, 75-year-old Jeanne Feasel was taken to St. Vincent Hospital where she was pronounced dead. William was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition.

Four Carmel Police Department officers were taken to IU North for smoke inhalation.

Police believe speed was a factor in the crash which remains under investigation.
