Hamilton County, IND -- Hamilton County is taking a step to save the lives of people who overdose on opioids by handing out doses of the drug used to save their lives.
The Hamilton County Health Department will give out Narcan kits to those who attend an educational presentation. Narcan is used to reverse the symptoms of someone overdosing on opioids.
The Indiana State Department of Health released numbers last year that show 16 people died from opioid overdoses in Hamilton County between 2011 and 2015. During that same time frame, the State Department of Health reported 410 people in the county went to the emergency room for non-fatal opioid overdoses.
The Hamilton County Health Department will host a Narcan giveaway on Tuesday, August 28, at St. Vincent Fishers Hospital at 13861 Olio Road. The event is from 6-7 p.m.
