INDIANAPOLIS -- Ella Whistler, the teenager shot seven times at Noblesville West Middle School in May, said Sunday she’s ready to get back to her usual routine.

“I’m excited to go back the first day and just make things normal again,” said Whistler.

Whistler is still wearing a neck brace as a result of her injuries and has to stay away from contact sports for months, according to her father.

“I’m doing great, and the therapy is really going good,” said Whistler. “It just feels good to go out and do things.”

The 13-year-old says she’s excited about show choir and other activities.

Whistler spoke at a volleyball fundraiser held over the weekend at the Academy Volleyball Club on East 30th Street.

Organizers hope to raise at least $25,000 for Whistler.

“It’s really cool, I really like it,” said Whistler. “It’s really cool to see all these teams playing for me, I guess you could say.”

Organizers will hold a silent auction for Whistler until 11:59 Monday night.

80 teams total are playing for the teenager, including Noblesville West Middle School.

While at the event, Whistler watched her team and others and took pictures with the players.

Supporters can also buy T-shirts here to help Ella Whistler.

Whistler will return to school Aug. 1.
