WESTFIELD, Ind. -- The infield of 18 baseball and softball diamonds at Westfield’s Grand Park sports campus will see a major improvement in the coming weeks after being fitted with AstroTurf’s Diamond Series artificial turf.

“In the world of travel sports, the weather is the unpredictable factor that could make or break a tournament,” said Mayor Andy Cook. “The installation of turf on the infields means less interruptions during tournaments and overall more playtime. Our dedicated partner, Bullpen Tournaments, is investing in the future of Grand Park.”

Bullpen Tournaments manages the 26 baseball and softball fields at the 400-acre recreational sports village.

“We are thrilled to invest in the future of Grand Park and the City of Westfield and continuing the vision of making Grand Park Sports Complex a world-class facility,” explained Blake Hibler, VP of Bullpen Tournaments Operations. “No other complex in the country will have 26 synthetic diamonds, creating a destination where baseball truly matters.”

The artificial turf installation comes at a price tag of $2.5 million. Planners say a minimum of eight baseball diamonds will be finished by the end of 2017 and the rest of the project will be completed in 2018.
