FORTVILLE, Ind. — Fortville drivers are concerned about how long they’ve had to wait to get a traffic light installed at what they call a dangerous intersection. They’re worried if they don’t get one soon, someone could get seriously hurt.

Earl Bolander lives at the corner of State Road 13 and State Road 67 and says over the past nine years he’s seen dozens of crashes at the intersection near his home.

The crashes have become so frequent that pieces of caution tape from an earlier crash still hang near the road.

“The car lost control from someone pulling out, going westbound on 67, actually went through the strip mall sign on the other side of the road on Broadway, destroyed it,” said Bolander. “It’s just a very unsafe intersection.”

Bolander and other drivers say they’re concerned about the intersection because of the lack of visibility when turning from State Road 13 to State Road 67.

INDOT said they are planning to install a traffic signal at the intersection, but the project has been delayed from 2018 to 2019 because INDOT thought they needed to acquire land to install it. After the design phase, it was discovered that no extra land was needed.

INDOT says contractors will be able to start bidding on the project in March 2019, which could take up to four weeks. Construction should then start about one to two months after bidding is complete.
