HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. -- A central Indiana school district is making some major changes to security following an audit of all schools in the district.
Local law enforcement walked through all of the district’s schools with administrators to address any safety issues they may have.
Because of that audit, Mount Vernon Community Schools are now requiring all visitors to buzz in from outside of school buildings.
Visitors will also be required to scan their driver’s licenses once inside to check for any issues.
If there’s a warrant out for a visitor’s arrest or they are in trouble with the law, 911 will then be contacted immediately.
The schools will also be placing ballistic film over all windows.
Moving forward, all school districts in Indiana will be required to conduct safety audits to determine if they have the plans in place to keep students and faculty safe.
