AVON, Ind. -- The Avon Planning Commission voted 3-3 on plans to advance a proposal for a new neighborhood development.

With the council sending no recommendation to the town council, the project is still up in the air.

The recommendation is to put a high-density subdivision south of Avon High School.

"It's a great location," Developer Paul Rioux said. Avon is a great community. There's a lot of demand for housing."

But some opponents say the plans won't meet Avon's current zoning standards.

"They have a right to speak and they have a right to talk about what they feel will happen in their neighborhoods," Rioux said.

As the community deals with school funding issues, opponents say approving the project would be irresponsible. With the decision now resting on the Avon Town Council, some residents say they will not give up.
