HENDRICKS COUNTY, Ind. -- A 78-year-old great-grandma scared off a burglar at her rural Hendricks County property Thursday morning.

Joan Washburn said she saw a car near her Danville shop, which was unusual.

"I looked out the back door and the big door on the shop was up by a few inches," she said. "Then the small door opened and a man started to step out."

The burglar was likely looking for hand tools, thinking nobody was home. He saw her, went back inside, then came back outside to the woman.

"I said 'Who are you and what are you doing?'" she said. "He covered his face up with this coat, got in his car, backed out and went left."

The Hendricks County Sheriff's Office is investigating the burglary. There is no word on what was stolen.

Washburn said she is glad she scared the guy off, but plans to lock up the shop going forward.

"If I could get a hold of him now I would want him out there, cleaning up the mess he left," Washburn said.
