JOHNSON COUNTY — High winds are being blamed for an overturned semi that caused a traffic snarl on I-65 in Johnson County Wednesday morning.

Indiana State Police Sgt. John Perrine said the semi trailer overturned in the southbound lanes of I-65 south of the Franklin exit around 10:30 a.m. The trailer was empty, according to Perrine.

The driver was not injured, but the overturned trailer did cause a major back-up on the interstate during one of the busiest travel days of the year. Thousands of Hoosiers are expected to hit the road for Thanksgiving travel.

State police suggest not hanging out next to semis as you travel, because you never knew how much weight they're carrying and how the wind could impact their drive.

Extended clean-up expected. Right lane will be closed
