Howard County correctional officer injured in altercation with inmate

HOWARD COUNTY, Ind. -- A correctional officer was injured in an altercation with an inmate who was being held in "protective custody" Thursday afternoon. 

According to the Howard County Sheriff's Office, Corrections officer Evan Fiscus, 26, was injured during an incident involving inmate Bobby Lee Bowman, 36, just after noon. 

The altercation occurred in a "protective custody" unit where Bowman was being held on criminal charges of criminal confinement, intimidation, domestic battery by means of a deadly weapon, habitual criminal offender and a petition to revoke a suspended sentence for a previous criminal offense. 

Officer Fiscus was taken to Community Howard Hospital and treated for a concussion. he was released Thursday afternoon. 

The incident remains under investigation by the Howard County Sheriff's Office and additional charges will be filed with the Howard County Prosecutor for review.
