HOWARD COUNTY — Howard County in central Indiana will now be sending text messages to criminal defendants to remind them of their upcoming court hearings.
Howard County will send defendants a text five days before their next court hearing. Another reminder is sent one day before the hearing.
Authorities hope it will reduce the amount of time law enforcement devotes to tracking people down who miss court dates.
They also believe it will reduce the county's jail population.
