KOKOMO, Ind. – Kokomo police are seeking help in locating a child who was involved in a kidnapping incident Thursday.

Capt. Tonda Cockrell with the Kokomo Police Department said a father told officers his 8-year-old daughter Ja’layia Williams had been taken from an IHOP restaurant at 50 West 300 South by her biological mother, 29-year-old Sherica Wizzard.

The child’s father has full custody of Williams and had recently allowed Wizzard to spend time with her daughter.

Officers said without permission, Wizzard took the child and ran across 931 toward a Speedway gas station. Wizzard and the child got into a four-door Pontiac with dark tinted windows and went northbound on 931.

Wizzard is described as a dark-skinned black female, with hair in a short afro style, standing 5 feet and 3 inches tall. She was wearing a long black coat, white shirt and dark pants.

Williams is described as a black female wearing a pink jacket, white fleece long sleeved shirt and blue jeans.

Kokomo police said this case did not meet the criteria for an Amber Alert.
