INDIANAPOLIS — A member of Indiana Task Force 1 is headed to Hawaii ahead of Hurricane Douglas.
Jerry Piland, who serves as a logistics support specialist, was activated Saturday afternoon and will report to Maui, Hawaii, according to a tweet from Indiana Task Force 1.
He will be a member of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Urban Search and Rescue Incident Support Team, according to the tweet.

Hurricane Douglas is approaching the Hawaiian Islands and could pass "dangerously close to, or over," late Saturday night and into Sunday night, according to the National Hurricane Center. There is a chance for damaging winds, flooding, and dangerously high surf.
Several watches and warnings have already been issued, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu.

On Saturday morning, President Donald Trump approved an emergency declaration for Hawaii to offer federal assistance to the state.
