INDIANAPOLIS -- For the second time in two years, 38-year-old Karl Woodall is on trial in Indianapolis for murder. He's already been convicted in one killing. The second case involves a different victim and is not directly connected to the other murder.
A jury was picked and testimony began Monday in the trial of Woodall who is charged in the March 6, 2017 murder of James Sapp, an Indianapolis man who was found shot to death inside an east side apartment.
Investigators determined Sapp and Woodall were involved in a dispute over money, drugs and a gun.
Woodall's trial is expected to be done by mid-week.
A few weeks after the Sapp murder, Woodall shot and killed 37-year-old Stefanie Coulson.
On March 27, 2017, Coulson was discovered dead inside her east side home. An autopsy showed the Indianapolis woman had been shot in the head and neck "multiple times" and was stabbed over 30 times.
Coulson and Woodall knew each other and had augured over her use of his van without his knowledge.
Woodall was tried and convicted least year and was sentenced to 63 years in prison.
