INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Zoo was named one of the best zoos in America for orangutans by Zoophoria.net Friday.

Declared one of the rarest exhibits, as it deliberately does not resemble a rainforest, the Simon Skjodt International Orangutan Center allows orangutans to exhibit naturalistic behaviors and challenge their cognitive abilities while guests get up close and personal with the endangered animals.

The Simon Skjodt International Orangutan Center contains a three-level atrium with spiral structures lifted 150 feet into the air for the animals to climb upon.

The large glass windows allow the orangutans to come face-to-face with guests and show off  their human-like tendencies.

Guests are also able to interact with the orangutans and gain their perspective along the Indianapolis skyline during an aerial cable car ride.

The Indianapolis Zoo celebrated a historic moment in March 2016 when the center welcomed its first orangutan baby - Mila.
