3-year-old child in car that crashed following police chase on Indianapolis' west side

SPEEDWAY, Ind. -- A 3-year-old was a passenger in a car that crashed following a police chase Friday afternoon on Indianapolis' west side.

Officers say they tried to stop the car after it ran a stop sign near West 16th Street and Luette Avenue.

The suspect fled and allegedly threw a bag of marijuana out of the vehicle.

The car crashed into two others near West 16th and Kessler.

Police arrested the suspect then discovered the 3-year-old in the car.

The child was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The people in the two other cars weren't seriously hurt although one went to the hospital.

The suspect is in custody.

Police say there were multiple warrants for his arrest.

He faces preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement-fleeing, possession of marijuana, and neglect of a dependent. Additional charges are possible.
