INDIANAPOLIS -- Phase two of the 82nd Street widening project is underway on the southwest side of Geist Reservoir, and according to the Department of Public Works, the project is on schedule.

The two-phase, $14 million project will take 82nd Street from a two-lane road to a four-lane road.

The first phase widened 82nd from Hague Road to Lantern Road.  The second phase is widening 82nd from Lantern Road to Fall Creek.

Resurfacing, the addition of sidewalks and curbs, and drainage improvements are also part of the project.

There are some lane restrictions as part of the project. Traffic on 82nd Street heading westbound is open, but eastbound traffic from Fall Creek Road to Lantern Road is closed.

During the closure, traffic is being directed to turn left and head north on Hague Road, turn right to head eastbound on 86th Street, and then turn right again to head southbound on Fall Creek Road.

The restrictions began in May and will continue through August. The hope is for the project to be complete by the fall of 2019.
