INDIANAPOLIS — While many enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends, data finds that one of every six children in Indiana are at risk of hunger.

Now in its 47th year, the annual Thanksgiving dinner presented by the Mozel Sanders Foundation is providing food to those children and their families.

Volunteers at the dinner prepare 15,000 pounds of turkey and 2,000 cans of green beans all in an effort to feed thousands.

Volunteer chef Cullen Simpson said the work preparing the meals is worth it in the end.

"To know that a family will have a hot Thanksgiving meal they may not have, that's the way to give back," Cullen said.

Monetary donations are always encouraged but spending time helping others is just as important, volunteers said.

The annual Mozel Sanders Thanksgiving Dinner provides more than 40,000 Hoosiers with happy hearts and full stomachs.
