INDIANAPOLIS – People were rushing to catch cash after hundreds of 20-dollar bills flew out of the back of an armored truck on an Indianapolis freeway Wednesday morning.
The cash fell out of the back of a Brinks truck near the Holt Road exit of I-70. Police started getting calls around 9 a.m. from people who found the money.
Indiana State Police believe the truck doors weren’t secured all the way and opened while the truck was moving down the interstate.

Jazmyne Cooper was on her way to drop her grandma off at the airport when she pulled over behind the scene.
“People were stopped in the middle of traffic. Like everyone came to a complete stop to get the money and they got what they could and took off,” said Cooper.
She posted the video below on her Facebook page showing people picking up bills and police threatening to search her car if she picked anything up.
Cooper said she listened to her grandmother and didn’t pick any of the money up.
“My grandmother told me God is probably going to bless me because I didn’t touch it,” said Cooper. “Hopefully I do get my blessings for not picking up what wasn’t mine.”
State police are still working to collect all of the lost bills and say anyone who picked up money and doesn’t return it could be charged with theft. They're stepping up patrol in the areas near where the money fell from the truck. To avoid criminal charges, contact the state police at 317-899-8577 to make arrangements for the money to be recovered. Money may also be returned to the Indiana State Police Post at 8660 East 21st Street any time of day or night.
“People know right from wrong and anyone we track down who kept a dollar of this money will be arrested for theft,” said State Police Indianapolis District Investigations Commander, First Sergeant Bill Dalton. “The time to do the right thing and call us to turn in the money is now, because once we knock on your door, you won’t be able to avoid being arrested.”
