INDIANAPOLIS -- Starting as early as August 1, Republic Services will start billing customers in Indianapolis a rate of $99 per year for curbside pick up.

The new rate is the maximum amount allowed by Republic's contract with the city.

Mike Gargula says he'll keep paying for curbside pick up no matter the cost because he feels strongly about helping the environment.

"I think more people would do it if the city would just make it part of your property taxes," Gargula said.

The Indiana Recycling Coalition says the City of Indianapolis and Republic aren't the only ones in this position.

"The situation that's occurring in China right now regarding their increased restrictions on importing recycled materials from other countries including the United States has created a situation where markets are really tight," Allyson Mitchell, Executive Director of the Indiana Recycling Coalition, said.

If you decide you don't want to pay the increased cost for curbside recycling, here's a full list of recycling drop off locations in Indianapolis.
