DECATUR TOWNSHIP, Ind. -- To create a larger police presence in Decatur Township School District, school resource officers want to establish a nicer sub-station for IMPD officers, and they’re asking for the community’s help to furnish it.

They have a building, but right now it’s filled with old run-down and not-working furniture and appliances. Their goal is to clean it up and make it more accessible and usable for the officers assigned to their area.

“There are four resource officers assigned to work our nine schools and 8,000 people here in the district, so not very many,” said School Resource Officer Chase Lyday.

That’s why Lyday says IMPD’s presence is so crucial to their district.

“Their rollcall site is on the opposite side of the district. They are up in Haughville, which is several miles away from here, so we wanted to attract some other officers down here to our school district and our area,” said Lyday.

If you’d like to donate, officers will be at Decatur Central High School on Saturday between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. collecting. They’ll be on the south side of the campus.

Officers say they’ll donate any extra supplies they receive to the George T. Goodwin Community Center and the Decatur Township Drug-Free Coalition.
