INDIANAPOLIS — If you're walking around Monument Circle, you might notice a tall machine on the side of the street.

It's a pole camera that Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is hoping will deter crime happening on the circle.

This is a follow up to a story RTV6 did about aggressive panhandling and drug dealing downtown.

The camera is constantly recording and officers are watching to spot any activity, and hopefully make arrests.

"The more eyes you have the better you can see," said IMPD Commander, Phil Burton. "So one of the things that we've done is to add to this camera, but we still have officers actually in cars, on bicycles and on foot because you're doing some extra proactive patrols to actually stop any type of criminal activity."

Police installed the camera on Jan. 7 and they say the camera will be there for about a week. The camera will then be relocated to another crime hotpsot.
