INDIANAPOLIS — This far east side resident is hoping someone will finally do something to clean up what's become a dumping ground.

If you've ever driven along 46th street between Mitthoeffer and North German Church roads, you have probably seen it.

Maybe you have even seen someone throw one seemingly innocent cup out the window — well, it's starting to pile up.

And folks who live nearby have had enough.

"Basically it's just an open dumping ground," said Bryan Day.

Day has lived near 46th street for five years and says he has watched people leave their junk on the side of the road. He's even watched a lot of junk pile up near his home.

"I've seen living room sets: TVs, big screen TVs, small TVs, washer and dryers," he said.

Today, we even saw a propane tank hidden in the trees. The stretch of road technically sits in Lawrence, but the City of Indianapolis has cited property owners on both side of 46th street, in the past, for trash clean up.

RTV 6 emails to Department of business and Neighborhood Services were initially un-returned and calls to the city of Lawrence were un-returned.

A spokesman for the Department of Business and Neighborhood Services says an inspector has visited the area and created a service request for the trash and says the city will take the necessary steps to abate the problem.

Day says he has seen the mess cleaned up in the past, but within 24 hours — there's another pile of trash there.

"Please do not dump here. this is our neighborhood," he says. "Spend the ten fifteen bucks and go dump it please. It makes it look like crap around here."

A pick up truck load of regular trash at the Marion County transfer costs just $5 — that includes items like tires, without rims.
